I think that they are ALL fantastic. I don't have a need to use every one of them on every job, but knowing that I have flexibility gives me a great feeling of confidence. Thanks for doing such a great job Lochinvar. I always look forward to the next generation of controls to see what the control wizards will come out with next. In my professional opinion, your control is light years ahead of everyone else, and is the primary reason that I have decided to deal in your product alone. Anyone can make a fire in a box. Controlling it and getting it to stand on its head and spit wooden nickels makes ALL the difference in the world. Yours is even better than Viessmann, and that was my preferential boiler before Lochinvar came out with the Knight line. Keep up the great work team Lochinvar.

ME

It was one of the first installed in Colorado. It only does DHW thru an indirect storage tank. I have been keeping an eye on the venting system, knowing that it would always be running at higher temperatures. I too saw discoloring of the pipe. When I scraped the outer surface of the pipe, I found virgin white PVC beneath the exterior color. ALl joints look to be in tip top shape. Honestly, PVC has been in use as an exhaust product on forced air furnaces for over 20 years, and other than an occasional knuckle head doing something really wrong, I know of no PVC failures that would cause me to lose any sleep. As it pertains to Canada, I do believe there is at least one manufacturer of PVC pipe that has gone to the necessary testing to get their PVC product approved for modcon applications. I think that certain people are making a big deal out of nothing. I also think the code authorities and testing labs just want to make more money in the process.

Just my $0.02 worth. Keep the change ;-)

ME

The only thing my "distributor" got right was the recommendation to buy Lochinvar. Long story. We are no longer talking. Here's the questions: Do I need a switching relay (Taco SR503) or can I wire it from the smart system control? If so, how, and does anyone have a picture or two?
Sorry to bother you pros, but I am in the sticks of NW PA and need to know how this works (in detail) in case it fails in the future - thus the DitY. In the other cases, the property has "dirty power" that "flutters" when the power comes back on after an extended failure.
I had a KBN 150 lock out last year (winter) on a small commercial building. There was a surge of some sort which also fried the board in their overhead crane. It faulted and locked because it had a flame signal when no flame was present. The guys working there "just started pressing buttons and it fired up". There have been no issues since, or before that time, although I do strongly agree AN AUTOMATIC RESET NEEDS TO BE INCORPORATED INTO THE CONTROLS. This was not a bad situation in my case, but as mentioned in the post above, a frozen house is bad press for Lochinvar. If they listen to contractors as well as Paul says they do then hopefully they'll do something.

Topic "WHN & Honeywell AQ2000 Controller 0-10vdc" a message from PPHAK

I have a WHN199 hooked to a Honeywell AQ25142b controller. Using 0-10vdc to fire the boiler. AQ sensors are before and after closely spaced tees (working as system sensors), and boiler is set to adjust firing rate to dc signal (TT's are NOT hooked up). Wanted to try this to take advantage of both the outdoor and indoor load reset you can get out of the AQ, but it cycles the boiler like crazy. Tried setting the WHN to adjust setpoint to dc signal, but that made it worse. Set it to fire at .5vdc, and set min volt firing rate to 0%, max to 100%. The boiler is sized slightly large for the application due to snowmelt loops, but even still the AQ doesn't start ramping the WHN firing rate down soon enough. It doesn't ramp down to 20% untill system temp is at or over target temp. Supposedly its a "smart" controller and will adjust over time, but I'm not seeing it. Unfortunately, 0-10vdc input overrides any ramp delay settings on the WHN. The zone controller itself is really neat, but I'm starting to think its not worth a whooey at controlling the boiler. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this.
edited by PPHAK on 10/21/2011
